Emami Ltd. shares fell to a 52-week low of Rs 385.5 during Thursday's trading session before recovering to close 1.3% higher at Rs 398.5. The intraday dip followed the company's announcement to acquire the remaining 73% stake in Axiom Ayurveda Pvt Ltd for up to ₹200 crore, gaining full 100% ownership. This step marks Emami's push into high-growth health beverages amid shifting consumer demands for wellness products.

Building on an Initial Investment

Emami first took a 27% stake in Axiom about two and a half years ago. That minority position provided operational insights into the functional beverages segment. Now, the phased acquisition over three months consolidates control and accelerates expansion beyond personal care into food and beverages.

Axiom's Portfolio and Steady Growth

Founded in 2019 by Rishabh Gupta and Alisha Gupta, Axiom offers aloe vera-based AloFrut beverages, functional juices under Axiom Jeevan Ras, and wellness products like Mukti Gold. These span nutrition, preventive health, and natural beauty.

FY25₹110 crore

The modest revenue rise points to a scalable model ready for Emami's distribution reach.

Leadership Boost and Integration Potential

Axiom appointed Harkirat Bedi as CEO, drawing from his role as Vice President at Dabur Nepal. This pairs founder innovation with professional execution. Emami foresees cross-distribution of its 550 products—like Navratna and Zandu Balm—with Axiom's lineup, plus shared marketing for wellness synergies.

FMCG Shift Toward Wellness Categories

Past deals include full ownership of The Man Company in 2024 and investment in Fur Ball Story in 2022. Vice Chairman Harsha Vardhan Agarwal emphasized high-opportunity categories matching consumer shifts to natural, functional drinks. Emami compresses market entry risks while tapping urban demand for plant-based health options.
